Travel vouchers as a gift

Does anyone have any experience of buying vouchers as a gift? Any recommendations?
My siblings and I want to do this for my Dad's 80th birthday gift, but I need as few restrictions as possible in terms of how/when they can use them, so don't want to be restricted to a certain company etc.
We aren't looking at huge sums, probably about €500. Any ideas? Thank you.

I've done this in the past - I bought TrailFinders ones but I knew the recipient always booked through them so not sure if they will suit what you need....

If you really don't know who he'd want to book it from then you should make your own vouchers for him to open then explain that you wanted him to be free to pick how to book etc.

Thank you, actually I think home made vouchers and a cheque might be the best idea, unless anyone has any better ideas.
