are you looking luxury, boutique or value?

justaphase · 02/01/2007 07:48

the art hotel meant to be the best

a tad bit expensive though

zippitippitoes · 02/01/2007 08:27

if you are looking at value then my dd stayed someone that was quite good..an apartment, central, clean comfortable, basic, pleasant enough and very good price

I have stayed in the Hilton which is where lots of air crew stay, corporate but excellent choice buffet breakfasts a metro ride from the centre in the business district but quite good if you get a deal on it Not terribly inconvenient but you do need to use metro (cheap, easy)

We've stayed in the ApartHotel Citadines . They aren't particularly exciting but good if you need not to eat out for every meal (my dh has food intolerances). It's also at the top of the Ramblas so v handy for things and there's a supermarket opposite. It also has a sun terrace with fab views over the city.

oh and my boyfriend can't eat onions of all things so that would suit him too.

some lovely (if expensive) options here

tribpot · 02/01/2007 12:03

That Citadines is the best of the ones I've stayed in (Paris and London) - it's purpose-built, not converted, so the apartments are a reasonable size, and the sun terrace is a major bonus.

Not being able to eat onions is rather tricky, isn't it!

Ulysees · 02/01/2007 12:13

tribot, tell me about it!! It's a new relationship. I just left dh but that was over ages ago. Had to stay for a reason but as soon as I could I told him it was over.

Anyway, nothing to do with onions I love onions too so can't imagine not being able to have them. Funnily he can eat garlic?

We stayed at apartment in the Born area of Barcelona a couple of years ago.

The apartment was lovely (and they have others in the same building for rental too) but the location was what really made it for us. It is in the heart of the Born area, very boutiquey and designery - just round the corner from teh Picasso museum. Lovely restuarants, bars and shops just on the doorstep, with lots of small alley ways to explore.

At the same time, you were only a short walk from Las Rmablas and La Balconetta (beachy area). You must try the tapas bars inside the Bouqueria Market - they put some of the tourist trap places to shame

andaSOAPBOXinapeartree · 03/01/2007 01:25

Oops - that would be this apartment!

zippitippitoes · 03/01/2007 11:40

ignore mine as it is in Madrid

still haven't found the barcelona one

Ulysees · 03/01/2007 11:56

haha yes I did wonder about Madrid

I've booked my flights at least plus a hotel for 4 nights in London. My boyfriend's from the US and hasn't been anywhere in Europe apart from Holland so he'll love London and Barcelona
