Not with children but have been several times and would say

it's a long way! So depends on age of children etc wrt plane journey
it's v lovely and you can get away with v few injections/tablets etc
Do get out and don't just stay in the hotel, it's very beautiful outside the 5* resorts

Have been twice with my DCs - once when they were 4 and 2 and once when they were 7 and 5.

We had a fabulous time both times

July is not the best time to go though - weather will be pretty unpredictable - almost the same as cornwall in summer time.

You may be lucky and get a nice spell, but equally you may get a blustery spell!

My DCs coped very well with the flights both times - and there is little time difference so jet lag is not a problem at all.

Hi Soapbox,

m two will be 2 1/2 and 6, I'm no worried about fligth (done plenty, though not as long).

Would you say April was better? I was tring to look at websites, but you find (incredibly) conflicting advice about the best times to go where..)

can I also ask you where did you stay?

Thanks

Soapbox · 17/01/2007 10:28

Yes - I think March/April would be better or Late Oct/Novemeber.

We stayed at the Maraatim the first time (on west coast) and the Residence the second time (on east coast).

July can be unpredictable, August can be really wet, but when it stops, in September, it's as if they've turned off a tap - all the rain shields come down from the restaurants etc and they expect no more rain.
The pools at the hotels we've been to (Sugar Beach and Le Paradis) weren't heated, so felt COLD to us, but then we're fairly wussy. Le Paradis was great because the half board was shared with the sister hotel next door, DinaRobin, so you've got about 5 restaurants to choose from, plus 2 more a la carte. If anyone's into golf the course at Le Paradis is spectacular and dead cheap too.
We went a few years ago (got married there in 1999, then booked to revisit pre-pregnancy, travelled 9 weeks pregnant - oops - cancel the golf lessons!), but still have great memories, expect for the transfer from the airport, which was a real pain, just crawling around the coast in a small minibus, after umpteen hours of travelling. A private transfer would be best, if possible, but will still be slow, because the roads are narrow. Depends which hotel you're going to of course, so might be something to check with travel agents/advisers etc.
