Day out in London ideas?

Am taking DS who is 4 up to London on Thurs (21st dec)for the day along with my mum.
Was meant to be going to the Snowman show and then to Rainforest Cafe for lunch but I left getting the tickets too late and they have all sold out plus the Rainforest is closed for a private function that lunchtime, so my plans are not going well!

Does anyone have any suggestions of anything thats happening?
Would love to do Mary Poppins etc but its far too expsensive this time round.
Am assuming that everywhere such as Selfridges and Harrods will be heaving.

All I can think of is taking him to the Aquarium?

How about Polar Express at the Imax cinema in Waterloo, or Happy Feet. Have a look on-line, see if there are any tickets left. There is a very child friendly restaurant a bit further along the river from the Imax - Giraffe I think it's called. We're doing this with our girls on Saturday.

Aquarium would be nice, or London Eye. Have a walk round Convent Garden, see the street entertainers and the lights.

I took the children to the science museum last week and had a fantastic time.
They have got a great Imax cinema and we saw Polar express in 3D. The children loved it.
The museum is free and the cinema worked out quite reasonable too.

Don't know if he's old enough, but there are lots of ice-skating rinks around. We went to one next to the Tower on Saturday, there is one at the Natural History Museum, one at Somerset House near Aldwych and one in Broadgate near Liverpool St. station. I am sure there are others...

want to take ds 5 out for the day tomorrow was thinking the science museum and then polar express thingy - do you have to book the tickets before yo go or when you get thre - if book them where do i book. thanks

still want to take ds to see polar express at imax - is it still on? where can i find out the info about it. thanks
