Help we are moving to Los Angelise

Hello my name is Michelle Ive a two year old son,My husband has a job in LA from March till Oct & we are going with him .We are looking for accomidation possibly in Santa Monica as it sounds family friendly.Has any one else done this or know LA well enough to offer any advise on the sort of accmodation we will need with a young child,also knowledge of toddler groups or places to meet other mums would be great too.

There a couple of us who are just in the throws/have just moved to LA. LATyke must be out there now I guess - moving to Torrance area - but I haven't seen her on here this month. WE're moving on 4 Jan to Manhattan Beach primarily cos it's near DH's work and is very family oriented.

Santa Monica is nice from what I've seen and has got a great Wholefoods supermarket and there are lots of young families. The main thing in LA seems to be the commute time. SM isn't that far in miles but the commute for DH would have been 90 mins so, as we had a choice, we've opted to be nearer work.

If his employer isn't helping with accomm then look on craigslist.com - seems to be the most popular for accomm listings - it's like classified ads but on the web. Haven't explored preschool stuff yet - have one at school and one preschooler - think it's pretty much like here in terms of spaces. Try the local chamber of commerce website and find a number to call - they don't do a list like they do here but worth a try. I've found if you find one helpful person they send you in the right direction and they really like to help.
