Family holiday Summer 2016 with 3yo- extortionate costs!

So today I decided that I need to get something booked for next year (really missing not going away this year due to other commitments and need something to look forwards to)

2 adults 1 DS who will be 3

Looking at either mid May or mid June- avoiding school holidays

Want 5 star somewhere we don't need to get taxis to get anywhere (don't feel safe in cabs abroad with no car seat and hoping son will still be able to sleep in pushchair on odd occasion on an evening

Absolutely gobsmacked at the cost of things £3k for B&B- here's me thinking I'm going to get early birds, upgrades or free child places etc.]

Nothing exceptional Princess Yaiza, Annabelle in Cyprus etc-

Am I deluded in thinking we could have got something for £2k ish?

Any help or any other ideas where we could go?

Thank

But you want five star so yes I would expect to pay that. I find long haul works out same price, you could go to mauritius all inclusive for not much more.
Are you all sharing a room, as two rooms bumps up the price.

If you want 5 star you pay for 5 star! 4 star should be doable and perfecgtly fine surely?

SecretSquirrels · 18/06/2015 14:57

Just wait until you are paying for adult priced teenage DC to come with you in school holidays and in a separate room......

£2k won't get you 5 (or indeed 4) anywhere, you get what you pay for.
If you want a budget holiday you need to look at camping type resorts or self catering.

Early to mid May is low season in the Canaries, but will still have lovely weather and everything open. Have a look at Jet2holidays.com.

I used the details you gave to search for a holiday in Lanzarote, 5 star for a week starting on 12/5/16 and got several results for a total of £1500 to £2100 B&B including private transfers, including Mumsnet favourite, Princess Yaiza suites in Playa Blanca. There was also the Hotel Volcan which was quite a bit less. Both hotels are in the centre of PB, so you wouldn't need a car.

These fly from Manchester, but there are a range of other airports - if the airports Jet2 use aren't suitable for you, try easyjetholidays or a travel agent for Thomson, First Choice etc.

Ignore the snippy comments BTW, £2k is a fuck load of money and you should be able to get a lovely holiday with it. Budget holiday, my arse.

I understand that we will have to pay for quality yet between last year and the proposed prices for next year at more or less the same dates it's more than £1k more expensive and we got half board and a room upgrade- that's with one room. We also paid for DS a seat on plane last year so it's not that that's bumped it!

Thanks for looking at those alternative dates for me this is why I love MN.

One company got back to me today and said to try mid July as deals and contracts with hotels for next year will have been firmed up by then- I blooming well hope so!

Have a look at WOW Bodrum, it is a lovely hotel and I just had a quick look and it comes out just over ?2k

Try Porto Santo on Thomson's website. We've just been and loved it. We only paid £2.3k and went in the school holidays. It is a very quiet place so if you were looking for something a bit livelier it probably wouldn't suit you.
