Do Ryanair measure your handbag?

We had planned to take just cabin bags when we fly next week. You can take a cabin bag and a small bag. But I've just looked at the dimensions for the "small bag" and my handbag is bigger by about 5cm.

Will I get away with it? It squishes down so I'm pretty sure it will go under the seat in front.

Any ideas?

Just make sure your handbag fits into your cabin bag, and then they won't need to count it as extra.

Cabin bag will be full of holiday stuff, I think!

When I flew Ryan Air a few years ago they had a cardboard box with the bottom cut out to measure your bag, this was when waiting to board the aircraft, so after you have checked your luggage and gone through security, not a great time to get caught out! They would ask you put your bag on the floor and place it over it, do you not have a slightly smaller bag you could use?

Oh well. Looks like I now have to buy a new bag just to fly with. Don't have a smaller one.

Things might have changed now, but I think i lt would be terrible to be told you have to check your handbag for an extortionate price right before you board the the plane, so thought you needed to know!

Are you sure you can take a handbag plus hand baggage? I thought it was only BA and the posher airlines that let you have two bags.

However, I've just paid to check in a bag. Sod it, not faffing around buying a new handbag. Cheeky sods, £15 on the way there,m £25 on the way back.

Grrr. Although I've definitely seen people being turned back on budget airlines for bags being too large, so probably not worth the risk.

We flew just after this rule came out allowing you to take handbag too.
I searched around for one within the dimensions. We were travelling hand luggage only so didn't want to risk anything being checked in.
so me and the kids each with cabin sized suitcase and a small other bag each.
Ours were smaller than a lost everyone else's, and none got measured. Although, most others were of a soft fabric and shape so would still probably fit in a small space.
I found it so much easier to have the extra bag for passports, money, kids had their ds's in and a teddy. So much better than waiting till flight underway then getting stuff out of the overhead lockers- I'd probably still stick with the permitted dimensions just in case they ever did come round measuring.

You are allowed to take a bag with duty free or stuff which you have bought airside at the airport. I have in the past bought a reuseable bag from WH Smiths when buying choccys. Loaded it up with handbag stuff so my handbag squashes up and looks smaller.
Never had a problem yet but we are off again this week so hope my luck holds

I have flown Ryanair a few times now with a handbag and hand luggage and never had any problems.

However... my handbag wasn't a massive bag - I currently have a handbag which resembles a sack so I probably wouldn't take that one with me. I also never buy duty free.

In essence I think a medium sized handbag and hand luggage will pass through without too much attention being paid.

sometimes worth paying for the full service airline if you can't manage on cabin bags of the right size.
