Just wondering if they are a problem at Easter time? TIA

We met someone with 70 bites on one leg when we went Shock - although we didn't suffer any bites at all. Helpful eh?! We did get the trots though so I'd take Imodium with me if I went again.

Been to Egypt many times and never had one bite.

Depends where you are staying. Where we stay they spray all the undergrowth twice a week and we've never been bitten. Saying that though we still have an overnight plug in and take deet with us.

That's great thanks. We're staying an an all inclusive hotel on the beach. DD has dreadful reactions to mosquitoes so sounds like I'd better go prepared. Thank you.

I went to Egypt in 2005, I did get bitten once on my calf, wasn't a particularly bad bite but they itch like buggery don't they?!

The whole family was prescribed malaria tablets by the gp.

With regards to the trots, don't even brush your teeth with the water!

gordonpym · 24/03/2015 10:24

No mosquitoes in my memories, but I have to add a word about the trots. I had a full pharmacy for diarrhea, but nothing for the opposite, and I suffered the worst constipation of my whole life. A whole week without a poo, no kidding. I wasn't eating fresh fruit and veg, so I guess that was the result!
Take something for both conditions!

I don't know if your DD can take anti histamine, but my DH has a bad reaction to bites & before going on hols anywhere where there are mossies, he starts taking a one a day, non drowsy anti histamine, like cetirizine, for a week before going & every day whilst there & for a few days when home.

It makes a huge difference if he does get bitten.

It's the tummy issues that put me right off Egypt. How horrendous to be ill in hols!
