Turkey - safe enough to travel to?

That's it really - know there's no guarantee anywhere, but given it's location and what's happened in Tunisia, I am wondering...

Maggie, Turkey is a very long way from Tunisia, it is probably about the same distance from the UK to Tunisia as it is from Turkey.

What happened there has no relevance to Turkey at all.

As we know terrorists can strike anywhere, last time it was much closer to the UK, in Paris.

Don't let it worry you, Turkey is as safe as any other country. I would happily go there tomorrow if I got the chance.

Overall I think it's pretty safe as long as you are not close to the Syrian border. I think resorts are pretty much okay. There have been some issues with major cities with demonstrations etc e.g. Istanbul (see foreign office advice).

However having been in Side last year, it was unnerving as everyday I saw and heard the fighter jets flying over to Syria! Odd sight when sitting by the pool!

I have to admit I'm wary of turkey and Egypt now and personally wouldn't go to either but that's me overreacting I know! Actually I wouldn't go to Crete either as it's extremely close to Lybia by sea and one of the crossings for those leaving - as you can tell I've really over thought this!
