Can you recommend a hotel in Birmingham?

Hi all,

My DH is going over to the motor show at the NEC next month and since we've never been to Birmingham, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good (but not massively luxurious) hotel convenient to the centre.

Any ideas girls?

all hotels near the nec are rather branded types I think

I used to go on business and stay in the Birmingham Metropole which is a good standard large business hotel close to the NEC.

Never got to see the actual city before last weekend though!

Moor Hall in Sutton Coldfield v. nice. Health club with pool, golf course, nice bar and terrace with view of course. Rooms in the newer part are bigger.

I spent my wedding night there - its not massively luxurious - rooms fairly standard, but its got good facilities, convenient for NEC, nice location .

I meant view of golf course, not view of course IYKWIM

malmaison at the mailbox is fab and reasonable, near all the shops and he could train it to the nec

theres a hotel du vin in the city where the eye hospital used to be. My brother rates it

Is there no question that cannot be answered by posting it on Munsnet? Someday I'm going to post some deep philosophical question and see if we can't solve ALL the problems of the world (and not just all the problems of a lone Mammy in Ireland!!)

Not in Birmingham centre, but convenient for the NEC: the Manor Hotel at Meriden. In the centre, for something not too corporate business-travel style, I'd look at the Hotel du Vin , though the food certainly isn't cheap.
