Camper van trip in Australia

Hi,
We (2 families with DC aged between 3-6) are planning a trip to Australia in December. We have 2 to 3 weeks to spare.
How realistic would it be to do Melbourne-Sydney-Brisbane in 3 weeks?
If you have any recommendations and/or advice, I would be very grateful.
Thank you.

Melbourne to Sydney over 2-3 wks with time spent at either end could be lovely. The coast up through Lakes Entrance, Bega etc is really nice. Adding in Sydney to Brisbane is, I think, way too far. Alternatively, Sydney to Brisbane without Melbourne in the time frame is fine.

Couple of things to consider...

December, once the schools break up, is peak holiday season. Everywhere is busy and booked up way in advance. It is also the most expensive time to holiday.

December can be incredibly hot, in Victoria anyway. Could be low 20s, could be high 30s.

Campervan rental is expensive.

Kids need car seats. UK seats (don't know if that's where you are from) aren't legal here, although there are plenty of hire options.

I think it is doable in 3 weeks. You can drive from the Gold Coast to NSW in about 12 hours, the about 10 to the Victoria border. It depends how far north, south and inland you want to go.

I recommend the Great Ocean Road. Beautiful to drive. Sydney centre may be difficult to park to sightsee so maybe park out of the city and catch public transport which is easy enough.

If campervaning consider that December is hot in all 3 states, mostly QLD and NSW, which can be up to 45 degrees Celsius. Aircon is recommended but you will need power hook up.

Also, more than one van? Children up to 7 years legally need car seats so need to check for anchor points, car seat hire etc.

Big 4 lists caravan parks for many places or just pull over for the night in rest stops, which is what we do in our RV for long trips. We only use caravan parks if we are staying in one place, or want to use facilities like laundries.

Feel free to PM with questions. We RV at every opportunity, and have 2 young children.

oooh v envious - we did this a couple of times when the kids were younger - they absolutely loved it. Agree with pp trying to fit in melbourne sydney and brisbane is pushing it in three weeks. It is a massive distance to travel. First year we travelled from Melbourne to Sydney and it was awesome, second year we travelled from Sydney to Brisbane up the coast and then back down again inland through the Hunter valley and up to the mountains to ski - again awesome.

oh I am so envious of you right now - you will have a ball and not want to leave.
