Route from Cherbourg - Carcasonne with 2 stop-overs?

We're driving to a village just outside Carcassone for our summer holidays next year, and we've factored in 2 days/nights to do the journey to break up the driving time (DD1 a bit car-sick, DD2 a bit high maintenance on long journeys!). Can anyone suggest a possible route, or places for a stop-over x 2? I'm thinking quaint towns, something to see and do for a few hours for the DCs, not particularly thinking big cities. (We'll be arriving in Cherbourg approx 2pm). Thanks!

Lovely area to visit.

We did similar a few years ago - but took the Tunnel from Dover to Calais - so our drive was a little further.

Our two stop overs on the way down were Rouen and Limoges.

Rouen probably won't be any good for you, as you will already be west of it.

I have heard that Vire is a nice enough place to stop off and visit. My parents used it for a one nighter a couple of years ago. It's about 1 hour 30 mins drive from Cherbourg. So a nice time to arrive - check in to a hotel and have an afternoon and evening exploring before setting off again the morning.

Limoges - has a fab train station. Really interesting to go inside and look at the architecture, windows etc.

I can't remember what else we saw there - it was a few years ago.

But we managed to keep 3 boys entertained - aged 11,10 and 8.
