A question about Greek Islands and toilets

Looking at the Greek Islands for a holiday and the one thing that puts me off is the toilet situation (not being poncey, one of us suffers OCD and fear of all things toiletish). Does anyone know of any hotels (maybe the big modern ones?) that have toilets which cope with paper being flushed?

Bunbaker, are you me? Cin cin to the Aperol Spritz!

Basically, ditto to everything Bun said. We've stayed in Garda, Bardolino, Peschiera - all brilliant, and Costermano (it was a bit far out although lovely). We did the parks as well, they're a nice size and good fun. Free buses run from some of the lakeside towns. The ferries, buses and trains are very good.
Monte Balde is a good day out but go early to avoid the worst of the cable car queue. Lovely walks and views along the top with a couple of nice-enough restaurants. And friendly big cows with bells on, so watch your feet Wink
I think I'm talking myself into going back!

All the towns around the shores of Lake Garda are linked by ferries, which is a wonderfully relaxing way of getting around.

Crikey, it sounds wonderful. Absolutely brilliant. Cant wait to book the flights - dh is on the phone to his mother and I need his credit card now but she goes on and on! Thanks so much for the info - will be re-reading all the Garda threads on here.

Any hotel recommendations please?

Beehoven, how early do you need to arrive to avoid cable car queue?

Be there for 10, 11 at the very latest probably. The queue moves up regularly (2 cars on the go) but it can be boring for the kids.

Hope you have a great time.

If you can deal with shitty nappies what's the problem with loo paper, can't get my head round it at all!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 24/01/2015 23:33

Patsy, it's not the OP, it's her DS who has OCD.

We liked Peschiera. Really good base and you can get the train to Venice and other places from there. Lots of campsites if you don't mind a mobile home type place.

My only comment re Monte Baldo - it might be boiling and sunny at the bottom, you could have snow at the top Grin. We looked like right muppets (tbf that was early June). You might want to take a good jumper and some sensible shoes.

I just got back from holiday in Greece. I have to say I struggle with the whole loo thing. I just find it revolting that the bathroom has to be full of shitty paper. Maybe that makes me 'uptight', but it's just the way I am. My body went on strike and I got really constipated. Just feels really wrong to deliberately 'foul' one's own bathroom - the place that should be all about being clean. And FWIW - the super posh --and yes, v. soulless- 5* hotel type places have different systems (no idea how) as you can flush in them. I know this as we had a delayed flight and ended up using an airport hotel.

specialsubject · 04/09/2016 09:56

Recognise this is a zombie - but if you dont 'foul' in the bathroom where do you do it?

The paper bin is usually emptied daily. The system keeps paper out of the sea.

Body function. We all have it.

DerelictMyBalls · 04/09/2016 14:43

Well of course you 'foul' Hmm in the bathroom, but most of us in the UK are used to flushing away all residue immediately. It's unpleasant for some to have to sleep yards away from a bin full of shit-covered paper.

Good tip about the nappy bags- I will definite take some next time we go to Greece or Turkey.

We are just back from Crete and the loos were just generally hideous. The public loos by the beach were basically just a hole in the ground.
