40th Weekend away - Rome, Venice or Florence?

Only a few months to go and I hit the big Four O, as does BIL and his wife (poor DH is already over the hill!).

The four of us are in disagreement about where to go next Spring, so would love some thoughts please!

All of them are fab so long as you avoid the main tourist season. Florence is fantastic if you're into art history, but the Uffizi is packed out from Easter onwards. Venice is kind of spooky out of season, in a mist on the water, amazing light kind of way and I love Rome any time of the year. If you do Florence, you may want to do Venice as well. There's a direct train, 1st class (not particularly posh) about £40 I think.

Thanks mumbles, I'd love to do all three!

They are all fab. If you have never been to any, I would say Venice. If you aren't a culture vulture, Florence is pretty enough, but probably not as interesting as the others. Florence is about 2 hours away from Rome, and Venice is aabout 3 hours away from Florence IIRC.

Venice in Spring is great ...But avoid Easter as packed( as are Rome and Florence).

I think its fab out of season as no day trippers. Agree can be spooky when mist comes up over the lagoon but its a great place

Its fantastic for a weekend break you can really feel the atmosphere of the city

If you pick Vce and need more info just shout !

Well I went to Paris for my 40th - thoroughly recommend it.

OTOH, dh and I went to Rome for our 10th wedding anniversary and that was out of this world. Venice is nice too, never been to Florence. Personally, I would go for Rome. There is nowhere as beautiful or interesting or cultural or spiritual on the face of the earth.
