myermay, we went to porto colom two years ago and stayed at the beach resort of cala marsal. We have 5 children aged at the time between 9 and 15. All of them really loved the place. We have been on a few holidays and that's the one we always talk about. I think I reviewed it on mumsnet. Anyway, its a lovely quite small resort, built up around a hamlet attached to a lovely, immaculately kept, safe beach. We went end of June, and after a couple of days we passed the same friendly faces. Each family we met there were loving it. It is definitely a family resort - it would be quiet enough for couples. There are two hotels in cala marsal: we stayed at ola club cecilia, but the other hotel (cant remember its name) had a better pool.

cod, we stayed in an apartment. It was actually better than the brochure described it (anazingly!!). We had a 3 bedroomed, two bathroomed apartment. It was spacious, very clean, and one of only about 8 in a block of two stories. The area they are built on, slopes down to a tiny rocky cove, and so all the apartments, although two storied have access to the ground cos they are built on a slope (does that make sense??). Our third bedroom had shuttered french doors opening onto a patio area facing the street, whilst the living room had a balcony overlooking the sea, and our front door was ground floor, yet whole thing was on one level. (why have I gone on about that..?!!). It was a lovely place, the only people you saw were other families you had met the night before at the (very enjoyable) entertainment, or on the beach. Ola club cecilia was the name of the apartment complex. The main block was multi storied and older looking, around the (small) pool and reception. You could get all inclusive if you wished. Our apartments were across the road and far nicer.

Meant to add, that we went with budget travel from Ireland. Very dear for all 7 of us. However we can book the 3 bed apartment direct for 100 euro (is that about 78 sterling?), per day
