TTC and flying- am I stupid?!

So DH and I have just come off the pill and will officially start TTC#1 once AF appears..... whenever that may be?! :)

We have a holiday to Dubai booked over Christmas and I am planning to book a short break to Ireland for February. My question is am I being stupid booking these breaks when I could be pregnant by then? I know the official advice says it's fine to fly up to 28 weeks but am I taking a risk if I am in the very early stages of pregnancy by then?

Go on holiday and enjoy yourself; you can all too easily overthink such matters. It can take some couples up to a year to conceive anyway so it is not beyond the realms of possibility that you would not be pregnant by either Christmas 2014 or February next year.

Having had several miscarriages I've really looked into this and there really is no risk of flying in early pregnancy that would harm the baby. You might want to wear flight socks on the longer flight - I did with my first child but not my current (successful at 26 weeks) pregnancy. The only thing is you might feel nauseous yourself if in early pregnancy but that's not made worse by flying and a holiday would be rather nice. I've flown lots when pregnant and it's all been fine.

Go! There have been studies which show no increased risk of miscarriage if that's what your worry is, so it's completely safe. I flew at 31 weeks and my midwife had no worries even at this stage. Early on in pregnancy you may suffer from morning sickness so that could be unpleasant on he flight, but you (in my opinion) really can't put all life plans on hold when ttc. If it takes you a while to conceive then you'll then have no holidays to look forward to either!

DD was conceived in America so technically I was about a week pregnant when we flew back. Fast forward a month when we actually found out we were expecting and the next day we flew on holiday to the caribbean. I then flew back to the US on business when I was 8 weeks pregant so lots of long haul travel. There is no link between flying and miscarriage so go and enjoy yourself.

I flew regularly up to about 34 weeks in both pregnancies - there really is no miscarriage risk. The only issue might be nausea and fatigue in early pregnancy which would make a holiday less enjoyable, but it really is not worth changing plans based on that vague possibility.

Was beginning to wander whether I was being selfish thinking about myself and my travel plans rather than the potential pregnancy, but reading all of your comments makes me realise that actually having a lovely relaxing holiday might be the best thing to either help us conceive or have a more laided back and happy pregnancy!

I flew from Belfast to England a few times when I was between 8 and 10 weeks pregnant with my first. Honestly it was fine and then I did a 3.5 hour flight when I was about 22 weeks and my third was conceived while on holiday, so flew home with an extra passenger . Good luck

I flew various times, for work and family reasons before I was 3 months pregnant and then again when I was 24 weeks.
