Cheap nice C London dinner for anniversary - Barrafina?

My lovely DSIS is having the kids for a few hours so DH and I can go for dinner. Budget about £70 inc wine.

Really don't want chain restaurants, and whilst do want good food do not want stuffy or too posh.

My dad has recommended Barrafina but I suspect we will have to be very careful to not spend too much and will have to start queuing hours before

any other thoughts? Found Antico in Bermondsey too, good set menu?

Thanks

Opera Tavern in covent garden is lovely tapas place, think you can book.

Does it have to be Central London? I know a fab Italian and a great tapas in Hammersmith, and also an even better Tapas in Clapham / Brixton.

Thanks - we're heading back from town to my mum's in Mortlake for the night, so Hammersmith/West could be good, but Brixton Clapham not so (but do tell as I like in Croydon so could pop there another night!)

Pentolina in Brook Green / Hammersmith is great. And not pricey.

And the other one Boqueria: iswww.urbanspoon.com/r/52/1650909/restaurant/Brixton/Boqueria-Tapas-London

We went there a month or 2 back and will definitely be going again.

We had a great meal at the big easy in covent garden - the early pre-theatre menu is great value and food was delicious. You have to book as it's very popular.

Oooh, I went to Big Easy last week, and (unlike my friends) I didn't like it at all. Yes service great, but very noisy and portions ridiculously huge - I probably ate about a third of my tray. It wasn't cheap either - I think my bill was about £40 for me.

Andrew Edmunds in Soho is lovely for an anniversary meal and pretty reasonably priced

Delphine31 · 10/09/2014 16:27

Prix fixe on Dean Street (Soho) is pretty good. Your £70 budget would be safe even eating a la carte, but they do a nice set menu too. It's a low-key french brasserie type place but the staff are attentive and the food is good for the price. I've also heard very good things about Andrew Edmunds as recommended by Dinky above.

Not the Big Easy; it would be a nightmare for a romantic anniversary meal as much as I like it (I have been thirty times I would say).
