BA to Australia - what's your experience?

We're currently planning our holiday to Sydney and our travel advisor says the best available flights (price wise) are with BA/Quantas. I dislike BA with a vengence and have never heard great things about flying longhaul with children with them. Can anyone tell me otherwise or is it just better to pay the extra money and fly with Singapore or Thai airlines? (Kids are 3, 7 and 13 BTW so don't need bassinets/food heated etc.).

oh pants why wasnt this thread started last week, we have booked a flight to Oz with BA/Quantas our theory was buy cheaper seats and then we can afford to get DD (under 2) her own seat.....or fly more expensive with emirates/singapore and have DD on our lap all the way.......

eek.....

hey what do DH's know? Just call them theres nothing like speaking to someone . I have always dealt with them on the phone.

We have flown Air New Zealand, BA/Quantas, Singapore and Emirate to Oz. No Real problems, but for comfort and lovely staff I would recomment Air New Zealad, Singapore and Emirates.

Another subject but last October went to Florida with Virgin, awful - wouldnt let me put a 18 month olds milk in the fridge, even though it was in small cartons, lucky I had some cool bags.

Well it's Singapore airlines for us!!! With the situation in Thailand we decided to switch our stopover to Singapore instead and I managed to find flights for £1,000 less than the agent I was using quoted for the dreaded BA. We have had to jig dates a bit, but for that much of a saving it's well worth it. Just hope they're as good as everyone says they are now

Hi there, we flew with Singapore last year on a great trip to NZ. Had a great stopover in Singapore on the way out and return journeys. Staff could'nt have been more accomodating for ds who was 6 months.

I flew to sydney wiht my then 3 month old just recently with BA - the trolley dolly was a cow (i was in Business Class) - i was busting for the loo and asked her to hold him. My son obviously didn't like her either - spewed up all over her skinny little waitressing outfit! She was irate!!!!

Botton line is: airline schmarline - it doesn't matter. It all depends on the kindness of the trolly dollys as they can make the trip brilliant or dreadful for you!

I'm off to Sydney again in 4 weeks time - it's 24 hours of hell - but just keep reminding yourself: i'm lucky to be going on holidays - people would kill to be in my position: I'll cope! Have a fab time.

So I'm guessing you're not flying BA again Georgiaplus1 That's my biggest gripe with BA TBH, snotty cows (and whatever the male equivalent is - they certainly aren't bulls!!!!).

I've had good experiences with BA if that's any consolation

Have just booked a flight to Oz with Singapore Airlines. I can only hope their in flight service is better than the rude people I have had the displeasure of dealing with in their reservations office!

sunnydelight · 27/09/2006 17:21

Their reservations staff do seem variable teabags! The first person I got was absolutely fantastic, and gave me the internet fare even though I was booking over the phone as I had had problems with my card trying to book online (my bank's fault, not theirs). She also held the flights for me for 24 hours. When I phoned to confirm the person's attitude was barely acceptable, and I was on hold for 20 minutes before I got through.

teabags · 27/09/2006 20:03

I spent about a total of an hour yesterday in Q's waiting to speak to SIngapore Airlines . One time after waiting 20 mins I got through and then she put me on hold and cut me off, grrrrrrr.

We flew with Cathay to Oz when DS was 7 months, they were superb, from the time of booking all the way through.
