Help! 2 night beach break near Biarritz?

We are currently in Dordogne and would like to go away for 2 nights. We've been to a beach near Bordeaux which was nice but the drive at the time was horrible and hard. Was looking at Biarrits Sofitel which is near the beach but quite £££ and it will of course be packed! We are not familiar with any other beach destinations around. Please recommend me some nice places within 3-4 hours drive from Dordogne for some beach action for 11&9 yr olds, good hotel for us parents and some yummy seafood & wine. Please tell me this place exists.

Hi, wonder if you'll see this! Been on holiday in that area in the last few weeks. Biarritz was nice, lovely beach and loads of cafes/restaurants. Other people said St Jean du Luz just down the coast was good but we never went. Bayonne is a lovely city just to the north of Biarritz but you'd need to drive to the beach (not far at all though). We were up the coast from Biarritz. My favourite town was Hossegar, had lovely designer shops, loads of cafes/restaurants and surfing at the beach. Wasn't looking for hotels though. We were in a campsite in Labenne (Sylvamar) which did lodges by the night, might be of interest? Nice campsite, good pool and bar.

Thanks Usain! Next time we will try further south as you suggested. Decided on Arcachon this time round and having a lovely time, especially the kids. Lovely sandy beaches get them excited and DH & I have been more or less ignored as they just dug and messed about. We don't come to beaches often so there's a rarity value. Took a mental note of Hossegar for shopping next time. Thanks again!
