We've made that journey quite a bit in the past. Word of warning - the loos in the roadside laybys without a proper service station are pretty minging, and the ones with the service stations aren't brill either. One service station we do quite like is about an hour outside of Calais and called something like "Baie de la vallee de la Somme". It has it's own nature sanctuary, playground and picnic area, as well as a proper service station with self-service cafe.

Le Pont de Normandie near Le Havre (which has its own service station) isn't too bad as at least it has good views, but the steps up and over the bridge might be a bit hard going for little legs.

Sorry to not offer up any gems. We're generally so keen to get to Brittany that we don't want to use up time straying off route.
