Hire car help please - would a small estate be big enough?

We're off to Italy in September and hire cars are pricey! We have 4 adults, a child in a car seat, a buggy, 2 medium suitcases, 2 carry on sized cases and a few small hand luggage bags.

I've narrowed it down to either a Vauxhall Astra estate (or similar so who knows what the hell you end up with) or a Vauxhall Insignia estate. I'm the only one stupid enough to agree to drive on the insane, narrow, cliffside roads of Tuscany but currently drive a VW 7 seater so used to a decent sized car. Does anyone know if these would fit and which would be better overall?

I'm thinking of hiring through Maggiore so if anyone has any experience of them it'd be great to know they're not useless as I'd like to avoid the extra £100 for Avis.

Thanks!

I'm not sure that you'd get a baby seat and 2 adults in the back of the Astra Estate. I have a Fabia estate, which is a similar size, and can't. I think the Insignia would be more spacious and more comfortable overall.

Perhaps check out Car hire 3000, they have always been good value when I have used them.

I had an audi a4 estate and i couldn't have a car seat and 2 average sizes adults in the back.

Well you could, but it wouldn't be comfortable for any of them! Smile

We had an Astra and struggled getting the car seat and 2 adults in the back. It was one reason to get a larger car (we now have a VW Passat) in the long run.

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I'll go bigger!
