Who do you book your holiday with? Anyone used Expedia?

Thinking of booking a last min break with either Thomas Cook, monarch or thomson. Don't know who to choose as I don't go away often! Usually with Thomson. Anything I should be aware of with the others?

Also tempted by Expedia - are they any good?

Thanks!

I usually book the hotels and flight separately, as for me that always works out cheaper. I book wherever it's the cheapest, but if you are going on a 'package holiday' then that's different.

Thank you. I don't mind booking separately. Could you recommend some sites to use?

Once i've decided on where i want to go i look at Skyscanner to find flights, then normally book with the airline direct.

Hotels - i use Last Minute, Booking.com or the hotels direct.

I have used Expedia for odd flight/hotel bookings when they've had a good deal but have never booked a 'package' with them.

I have found Expedia really expensive. I prefer also to put my own package together.

we have used Expedia, but also depending on the location have booked a villa from a random website , Google villas and area you want to stay, and flights separate. do remember to use Google maps to make sure your accommodation and airport are close and remember to hire a car or factor in transfer costs (taxi or public transport)

where are you thinking of going?

Thinking of Menorca. Something self catering near a beach.

Thank you for all the helpful replies!

Cala Galdana has a really lovely safe beach if you have little ones?
I love Menorca, so beautiful :)

Thanks for the tip! Yes I do have little ones. I went to menorca in my early teens and it was lovely, but can't remember where I went.

Alpharooms are good, we booked a hotel in Valencia through them for our last holiday before DC1 arrived and had no problems, and have used them to book for Majorca next year.

Their offices are just outside Sheffield City centre, about a mile from my house, so I know they are a real company and also where to go if there ever were any problems!

BuzzardBird · 06/07/2014 06:47

I use alpharooms occasionally too, but if I find accomodation with them that I like, I always email the place directly and get a better deal and room if possible. This has worked well on last two holidays and hopefully our next one too. Flights are really good with jet2 and we get into a taxi instead of tour operator coaches and are usually unpacked and enjoying lunch by the time the coaches turn up...smug bliss :)

I agree with trying to deal with the hotel directly. Less to go wrong, and I think you get dealt with better as you can properly discuss the rooms.
I also use a scanner for the flights and book direct with the airline. same principle.

Great advice. I will have a look at alpha rooms!
