We are planning a day trip to Calais in August and just wondering what where would be good to take the DC. I have heard that Boulogne isn't as nice as it used to be, anyone been lately? Or what else is good to do nearby?

Not much in Calais apart from the beach and shops. Nausicaa in Boulogne is worth a visit followed by lunch in the old town. Wimereux is nice.

I haven't been for about 12 years, but I liked Bologne then and particularly walking round the ramparts which give you a view of the old city, and I don't imagine would have changed that much in 12 years! For us, that would be a nice activity that both kids and adults would enjoy (they are grassy and have benches and trees and things)

St Omer is the place we used to go on school trips when the teachers got fed up of Boulogne and Calais. It has a nice cathedral, but I can't remember much else.

Have a good trip!
