Last year we went to Menorca. Good for 9 yr old. Older dd got bored. So can anyone suggest a resort which:

  1. Is warm around Xmas time
  2. Will keep both kids relatively happy
  3. Has decent waterslides/acqupark stuff

Thanks

Florida?

Would they go for something like Mauritius (pools, beaches, diving, water sports) or La Reunion (horse riding, mountain biking, go in a helicopter over a volcano, 1 scent beach with snorkeling) or S Africa?

I'd choose a hotel in the Caribbean with it's own waterpark. I've seen one in Jamaica and another in Dominican Republic. Or the Coconut Resort in St Lucia looks for older DC and teens.
Cruises are also a good choice for active families, although the pools are not big lots of ships have water slides.

We've been to the caribbean, the Madives and Egypt at Xmas. Best weather was the Maldives but Egypt will be your best best - a lot of the hotels have their own water parks to keep the kids occupied and weather was around 26/27 degrees.

I know the coral sea water world has it's own splash park.

Yes sharm is very safe - it's a 6 hour drive from Cairo so it was not affected by any previous issues there.

We are going back next may for our 3rd visit (previous 2 were at Xmas) and have no issue with travelling.

I would definitely look at a splash resort - they should have lots to keep you DD occupied. FYI the pools are cold in December - it is warmer in the sea.

Dubai or Gulf States?

I might have a better idea! If your 13 year old was bored, would being with other children help? We have been on the Adventure Company Family holidays. I have not checked availability but they have loads departing just before Christmas. Obviously you would be with other families and they are not luxurious but they keep children occupied very well. On 19/20 December they have trips to Morocco, Egypt, Costa Rica (yes please!), Sri Lanka, Cuba, North or South India, Nepal, Vietnam, Guatemala/Mexico, Thailand/Thailand Beaches, Borneo and Cambodia. I have omitted Kenya as I would not go there at the moment and Thailand might be a bit dodgy too. However, for me, these are great destinations for a family holiday. Much more exciting than a water park. They might even get wonderful memories and have something exciting to talk about afterwards!

Thanks Milly, that may be a better option actually.

I would love to know what you decide to do. South Africa is good around that time too but might be pricey.

Lower budget is Canaries.
