It's not all that likely to happen but we are in the very fortunate position where we could own a second home,
We are currently holidaying in a place that's very special to me and there is a property in a beautiful location just come on the market.
I have always shied away from owning a second place saying that I don't want to keep going to the same place, don't need the hassle, world's a big place etc etc.
Anyone here have a second place, tell the good things???
Trying not to get too excited but actually feels perfect

DP do. They bought a second house on the coast about 90 miles from home about 11 years ago.

They enjoy visiting it but do feel obliged to go over most weekemds. If they have to miss a weekend due to a holiday abroad or a family event then they try to fit in a visit asap so that the house isn't left unattended for too long.

Also factor in two council tax bills. Two sets of utility bills etc and general upkeep.

However if you think you will use your potential holiday home a lot then go for it.

My parents have owned a place in France since 1986. They go for 10 days to two weeks at a time several times a year now that they're retired. They love it. They really don't have any desire to go anywhere else. Yes, its an expensive luxury, but as they don't want to go on cruises or to the Far East or whatever it works for them. They were never big travellers in the first place and wherever they go now they compare it to 'their bit of France' and it never matches up! I guess if you just love that area/town/whatever and know you always will, you won't resent being tied to it.

Yep

I'm here now, sitting on the balcony getting a burnt nose Smile

We have a place in Spain. Bought it about 8 years ago. Love it.
We still travel. We were in Sydney for new year and are going to the Maldives in the autumn - I wouldn't want it to be our only holidays.
We tend to do half terms and several weeks in the summer.

Ds2 was the main reaon we bought it - he has asd so the familiarity is great.
Dd is 11 and loves just turning up and catching up with friends she sees once or twice a year.

Ds 1 is now 20 and he comes out with friends when he wants to which is lovely - he is here in a few weeks and then is heading for a few days in Barcelona.

The big plus for me is def the convenience. When we came here this time I literally picked up my handbag and headed for the plane. Everything I need is here - no packing, no planning and we can come out whenever we like.
