Lagos, Portugal or Kalkan ,Turkey?

So, I've narrowed our summer holiday down to these two places. We have a budget of £2,500-2,750 and I started a previous thread about whether this was doable for a 10-day summer break, and I think the general consensus was yes. This will be our only holiday this year, so I need to get it right IYSWIM!
So, does anyone have any opinions, good or bad on Lagos or Kalkan? We like swimming in the sea, bit of sight-seeing, beautiful as unspoilt as possible scenery, not Brits abroad, relaxing holiday with "different" stuff to see than if we stayed at home. It'll be me, DH and 2DC aged 10 and 7. TIA.

Kalkan is lovely, quite a lot of Brits there, but not English breakfast everywhere. It's quite upmarket.

Only 1 'beach' as such in the resort & it's pebbly - the rest are all platforms built on rocky coastline & straight into deep water. It's also very steep & hilly.

I haven't been there for about 5 years but go to Turkey every year & love it & it is cheaper than any where in the euro zone.

I don't know Lagos but I think that 7 is a wee bit young for Kalkan due to the lack of beches proper.

Have a look at a forum called enjoy kalkan to get a better idea.

The sea in Lagos is cold! However the town is lovely with quaint old streets packed with retaurants and shops. It has a nice buzzy feeling and there are lots of beaches along the coast to visit.

Kalkan is beautiful but doesn't have much of a beach. Lagos has a gorgeous beach but the sea is a bit rough and cold. Both are really nice but I have to say I do love Turkey Smile

Ooh, tricky. We went to Croatia last year and the sea was absolutely freezing, but quite welcome as it was sooo hot. Someone mentioned to me that there were lots of stray, slightly bonkers, dogs in Kalkan - does that sound right?? Are there nice beaches near Kalkan - my limited research has suggested Patara is nice. Also, we wouldn't be able to hire a car, as that'd push us over budget I reckon. Are these places that are doable without a hire car?
Thanks so much for the replies Smile

I haven't been to either, but did go to Alvor (near Lagos) at Easter. The beach is massive and the resort centre is compact with little narrow streets. It's one of the few resorts I would go back to.

Patara is lovely & do able without a car - you can go on the local dolmus (bus) for not much. But, it is very hot & you will need to hire a shade. And be aware that there are rip currents at Patara, people have been caught out by them.

There are indeed a lot of strays in Kalkan.
