Estimated turnaround for Durham Passports?

Sorry for another thread regarding passports! I have read the previous but am trying to gauge an approximate turnaround time.

DD1 passport renewal received by Durham via check and send on 9th May, we live in South Devon Hmm

I have tried to track, having read previous threads and now having major panic as my parents have booked flights for DD's to visit on May 28th (they didn't realise passport needed renewing - didn't think to check and booked as surprise) I've received an email from PO to say

"Your passport application is currently going through the examination process"

Have a feeling that granny might be travelling minus one grandaughter Sad If I call the numbers suggested am I likely to be able to upgrade? DH at home tomorrow so can spend the day calling but I'm unable to phone due to teaching, does it matter that I applied on her behalf? Any help or suggestions appreciated.

My daughters renewal was received on 5th may...I think it's at Durham but will find out 100% later this week if it is. I haven't received it back yet and haven't received a text yet to say its at least in printing. With 9 days to go I would bypass the 0300 number and call them direct and request an upgrade especially as it seems like current Durham waiting times are approx 4 weeks at least

Got this from another thread:
For Durham office call 0845 6015175

IGNORE THE BIT WHERE IT SAYS THAT THE NUMBER IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO RECEIVED A LETTER KEEP HOLDING AND YOU WILL GET TO TALK TO THEM !

OK so DH took today off work and has been pressing re-dial since 8am on the Durham 0191 number. No answer just engaged today tone. I called an 0845 number for Durham at 4.59pm but was told the office closed.

Any suugestions - I only have access to a phone until 9am tomorrow and 12.40pm till 1.15pm (teacher) any suggestions ???
