Toy and model museum in London - HELP!

Hi, A friend is coming over from Australia next week and has e-mailed to say that she would like to visit the Toy and Model museum in London. The only reference to anything that I can find is for somewhere that closed down in 2005. Does anyone know if such a place still exists? Thanks in advance.

the London Toy & Model Museum has indeed closed, maybe she's looking at something out of date.

I guess she means that. but she could have gone to the Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green, except I've just discovered it's shut for refurbs until October!

Thanks. I was hoping that wasn't the case! Do you know why it closed out of interest?

really not sure why it closed. Probably money though

There is a museum of miniature in Lyon, France if she is staying a while and really likes that kind of thing. Another in Switzerland about not too far from the one in Lyon. Can ask dh particulars if you are interested.

Thanks but she is only over for a fortnight so don't think she would want to trek to France.

Not sure about model museums but there is a museum of childhood in Bethnal Green. I have been there many times and it has toys from Victorian days to presant day. Has a lovely cafe there too. Good luck

Pollock's toy museum is quite a gem though I understand that there is some debate about the future of the collection - seems to be still open however.

If you're anywhre near Northampton or South Shields, part of the "must-have toys" exhibition from Bethnal grren has been touring:

must have oys

There is a toy museum at Stansted Mountfitchet, and next to it is a recreated Medieval wooden castle with dodgy waxworks and some lovely tame animals. You can get a combined ticket but if you come by train make sure you get off at Mountfitchet, not the airport!

Thanks everyone
