Any tips for a short break in Kuching, Borneo?

Just found out work might be (fingers and toes crossed) sending me there for a couple of days in October and have got myself all excited about going to Borneo! I actually doubt I will have much free time but might be able to delay flying home by a night so possibly have one full free day and some evenings to have a little look around. Any recommendations?

Kuching is lovely! Lots of great restaurants, chinese temples, Hindu temples, good market, a stroll along the river in the evening is nice too. You can take a trip out to the cultural centre where they have different types of houses- long houses, Malay town house etc. sounds a bit cheesy, but is quite well done. It's easy to get a bus there from centre of town. You can also visit some modern long houses and visit orang utans in the wild. There is a feeding station not far from Kuching and no guarantee you will see them or how close you will be to them but worth a visit. When we were there three crossed the path just in front of us- amazing!

A friend of mine goes to Borneo every year (and Malaysia).

Sounds amazing from her stories (and travel mails).

Go for it! (I might, next year Grin )
