Only been pre children but would say you definitely don't need a car. The Vassa (wrong spelling?) ship is a good visit plus a short ferry hope across the harbour to some of the islands.

How old are your children?

The pippi musuem is good (can't remember its actual name) and Skansen (an outdoor zoo/farm/has old biuldings). If you go to the cultual haus - it has a libary with big cushions, some books in english and at the back you can pay a pound or something like that and your children can paint a picture - I think you get 2 pieces of paper. Also has good art exhibtions. Also good for lunch - on the top floor. Near the vasa there is an aquarium. And a short bus ride out from the centre there is a butterfy farm. Stay in Stockholm - you won't need a car everything is puchchair and child friendly - buses are free for 1 adult if you have a pushchair and the underground is dead effiecnt. Infact everywhere is very child friendly.

Everyone speaks amazing english

this is a pretty good website.

I think it'll be quite cold in October, so would advise big coats. Make your way over to Djurgarden (in the city), that's where Skansen, the Vasa museum and Junibacken(Pippi Langstrump's house). Opposite Djurgarden is Ladugardsgardet, which has the Tekniska Museum, which is great for kids and also the Folkens Museum which has a fab restaurant.

Public transport is ace, the city is really clean and everyone is friendly. As cazzybabs

The restaurants along Gamla Stan are good but quite pricey. As cazzybabs suggested the cafe at the top of Kulturhuset has great food, resonably priced and great for kids.

You'll have a great time here!
