I can't decide where to go!

if you aren't tied to school hols then there will be bags of choice. if you are then I would either get on with it and decide or wing it and go last minute somewhere unexpected. just depends what kind of person you are - a planner or an optimist Smile

Tied to school holidays and am a complete obsessed planner! That's why I can't decide.

with 17 weeks to school holidays bonvivant with everyone booking early due to the Gove changes you might find that your choices are more limited than you think!! what kind of holiday do you want? UK, abroad, far, near? budget? how many people? city breaks are good combined with beach holiday like Barcelona. or florida keys, Canada adventure. I dream about going to Belize.

Sometimes I find it easier to decide if I work out where I don't want to go and see choices I have left. For instance we never go long haul in the summer , don't like driving holidays and prefer not to go anywhere twice. This rules out quite a lot of places so actually helps us choose what we do want to do.

I definitely want to go abroad, preferably long haul but with a direct flight from North West. Would love Belize but involves two transfers so that rules it out with DC. Have been to US a lot so am looking for something different.

Canada? I really fancy doing Vancouver island, train up to the rockies and around there. Florida keys? not your usual florida experience by a long chalk. pm if you want details of what we did here with our 3 DC's. what about getting some of the adventure holiday type brochures? Indonesia? Loved Venezuela but wouldn't go there at the moment. what about a European city tour?

foxdongle · 02/04/2014 10:03

^ second Canada. we went to Toronto area - there's loads to do with dcs and they loved it. 6 1/2 hr direct flight.
we went in August, couple of yrs ago.

we would like to visit Vancouver next time, too and do a cruise to Alaska.

bonvivant · 02/04/2014 21:38

Thanks for the suggestions - we did look at Vancouver and the Rockies but decided we need more sun! I think we will look at Caribbean area as the beaches are fabulous compared with the Med.

Aruba is one of the best islands weatherwise in the Summer.

MOSagain · 05/04/2014 19:26

Not really having a proper family holiday this summer.
I'm taking my 2 eldest to Egypt next week on a diving hol, little ones staying home with daddy.
going camping in a helicopter (yes really) for a couple of nights in july, maybe a few days camping in august and have just booked a week in the Maldives in February. Would rather go away when weather definitely rubbish here and take chances in summer with a bit of camping in UK

We haven't booked, not sure if we are going away yet, selling the house and buying another so have to see whether we have the energy/time/money for a holiday. We may leave it until Sepember or not at all, or it might be a last minute holiday.

I have planned meticulously in the past, booking well ahead, but if you have an open mind there are bargains whenever you book.
Last year we booked very late and got some really cheap flights ended up in Gozo- a place I had never considered, but turned out to be one of the best holidays of my life. I am itching to go back the place moved me so much.

Haven't book yet .. just working out whether we can afford it. It's me and ds12. Have found two weeks august in Turkey for £775. They are saying kids are free. Whereas usually I pay as I would If he was an adult. I'm finding some great bargains but then we are not too fussed about where to go.

Eastpoint · 10/04/2014 21:10

I wouldn't do Florida in the summer - too hot & humid. I would do real Caribbean rather than Bahamas or Turks & Caicos as those are both too mosquitoey. What about St Lucia & you could catch a ferry to another island if you fancy a change?

FurryDogMother · 10/04/2014 21:15

Sulking now as I haven't had a holiday (summer or otherwise) for 15 years :( On the other hand, I moved to the place we used to holiday in, so can't complain, really :)

atthestrokeoftwelve · 10/04/2014 21:17

Oh furry that's a shame.
