As title really. If you could go away completely alone for a few days where would you go?
What would you do?
Would it worry you being by yourself in a unknown Country or city?
Maybe planning to do this next year so i'd like some inspiration!

i went to paris alone about 7 years ago, dont speak french but it was fantastic. had no problems and was able to see sites that I wanted to see...

now, i'd probably choice a country hotel with spa facilities and horse riding...

I quite fancy Morocco with a good guide book, comfy shoes and just sort of go off and explore the bits that I want to see. But i'm also a bit concerned about being a lone women in a strange country so maybe should think about somewhere a bit closer to home. Paris in spring?

I'd go to Rome. I spent two days more or less on my own there, and it was great. It's easy to get round, and there are so many people, you don't feel conspicuous on your own. I've always felt safe there too. Eating out alone was fine too.

fairyjay · 18/08/2006 15:52

I wouldn't immediately have thought of Morocco, because it is such a male dominated country, but if you feel confident, go for it!

Carmenere · 18/08/2006 15:56

I would avoid Marocco by myself. I've been twice and it's a fab place but being a woman alone would be an issue there so I'd save it for a future trip. Paris, Rome, Barcelona, a city break would be my preferance.

Two places I've ended up alone are Madrid and Lisbon - dd called away for work. Both great and no problems eating etc alone in the evenings. Tbh would prefer a city where there are women business travellers alone - don't appear unusual. Any European city would be fine I'm sure.

swedishmum · 18/08/2006 22:46

Actually, New York alone would be heaven too - pampering and shopping!!

I'd probably go to Spain. I would probably go against everything I consider when booking a family holiday & go somewhere where I could do excursions with other people or just stay on a resort and do activities. Don't think exploring would be as fun on my own.

The only thing that worries me is that you don't know that much what the area will be like & how safe you'll feel when you're there. I've been to places which are supposed to be really safe but haven't felt safe IYSWIM.

Or I'd go shopping in NY as I always shop better alone! (Just wouldn't be able to steal my travelling companions spare luggage allowance!)

I would either go to New York (because I have never been and would lvoe to go), Amsterdam (because it is a lovely city with great art galleries and touristy things to see and do) or Venice (because I really want to go to the Murano glass gallery).

Hi Tunise
I'm actually heading to Paris this wknd on my own, so I'll let you know how I fare. I'm not sure of the exact web address but if you google Journey Woman, it's a site that offers advice to women travelling alone, very useful practical etc.
