Dp and i have finally managed to have a serious convo about getting hitched, it possibly wont be until late next year, early 2008 but we both like the idea of going off to Las vegas with some friends and doing it there- any tips or advice?

I also like the idea of getting married in New york ( decisions, decisions)

I would greatly appreciate if any of you have any experiences of either of the above that you could share with me, even horror tales as i really need to knuckle down and get something planned - 8 yrs and two kids later and my grandparents are still dropping hints and frowning at us!!

I got married in 2001 at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel
.....by Elvis!! It was excellent. It was really cheesy (just what we wanted!). Everyone we met it vegas were lovely, and there are some great trips to go on. If you don't want a cheesy wedding, you can take your pick, as they do all types. We arranged it all online, and it cost $400(lol, how cheap are we)

We got marriued in Las Vegas In 1997.It was great,no stress or hassle. We stayed at the Treasure Island & Mirage Hotels & the Mirage arranged a chauffer driven gold limo to take us to the court house to pick up our wedding license, then we got married at the Treasure Island Hotels Chapel at 5pm on a Friday night. Our parents & two sisters all flew out & we all had a fantastic time.

We arranged it all by fax & it was all organised brilliantly, they even arranged the flowers to match my dress. It wasn't tacky, just stress & trouble free, also it cost about a third of the equivalent church wedding over here & we had a fab honeymoon driving around the southwest states afterwards.

I can't reccomend it highly enough. Some friends of ours followed our example after hearing how easy & fun the whole thing was.

thanks, am now seriously looking at all options on the internet. Im so excited even though its a long way off yet.

mirage- that really interesting to see how easy was for you to "package" your wedding together, my main worry was visions of us all ambling around las vegas looking for somewhere in a taxi to get married.

thanks again- ill keep you posted!!

julie that sounds fab- have you got a link for the lake? I dont really fancy the little white chapel idea, but would like some different options.
I like the idea of going to NY with the girls for a few days, that sounds fab. Are we talking megabucks here???!!

I got married in Vegas in 2002. We just turned up at the bus station, went straight to the court house to get our license (pretty long queues) and checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Luxor - I can highly recommend it - and the buffet there is great. Next day was spent by the hotel pool and at around 4pm, we got dressed in our gear and called round the chapels for info. We chose the little white wedding chapel because it's so famous and not that expensive - the service with official photographer was about 50 quid I think but the offical expects a tip! We took tons of cheesy photos outside and then a limo took us back to the hotel (this service is 'free' but drivers expect a tip). The whole experience was fantastic - folks back home not overjoyed about it but we organised something for them when we got back. As you can probably tell, it was a very laid back affair - not much research went into it but once there, everything was very very easy. You can get some good hotel deals online too.

tiredemma- my group cost £780 per person for the girls and the boys part. The wedding package was ontop and they upgraded to a package with meal in etc. I can find their details to tell you the wedding package price. Honestly all teh party thought it was superb
