New Hand Luggage restrictions..............

quite pleased we're now allowed to take some hand luggage with us when we fly on thursday - but I'm slightly concerned by the exact dimensions they give

(no bigger than 45cm wide x 35cm long x 16cm deep (17.7" wide × 13.7" long × 6.2" deep), including wheels, handles, side pockets - equivalent to a small laptop bag or rucksack.).

Is it me or this that really restricting in terms of bags that you can use?? We'd just bought some new bags (that fitted the Virgin hand baggage dimensions) and they're ever so slightly too big for these dimensions.

Even our 'small rucksacks' that we've got don't fit into those sizes (too deep but not as wide)

I hope so - our hand luggage bags aren't going to be full - so they'd easily 'squash' into the space that would be available for a full bag of the dimensions given........but still the 'wrong' lengths [frown]

just looking on Argos and there's not really many (if any!) of even their backpacks which would fit those dimensions!

anyone know if you can take mobiles and gameboys in hand luguage?

oj - yes I believe you're now allowed to take mobiles on the plane.

We flew today. You can take mobiles and laptops and all that.

They're really twitchy about fluids and food. They made me taste one of the bananas, and one of the apples, that I'd just bought from WH Smith. We also had to produce receipts for food - food had to have been bought between checkin and planeside.

NQC - were they really strict on the dimensions of the bags too??

We weren't allowed carry-on bags per se - just big clear plastic bags. I didn't see anyone going against that rule - you weren't even allowed a laptop cover, never mind a case or bag.

I expect they'll be fairly strict - hard to say. What airport are you going from? And are you transferring inside the UK?

No no, Canada.

They announced yesterday, that as of today, people are allowed bags. We were only just barely allowed electrical items past security.

Can I bump this to see how other travellers are getting on - One of our bags is 1cm too deep (but fine for all other dimensions) - I don't know how paranoid to be.
