There are cheapo alternatives. DS1 has (somewhere) a tiny handheld weird game that he got free on a BA flight. Can't be worth more than £5, it looks like those old Nintendo Game + Watch games. The games are all shite, and he doesn't understand them really, but he fiddles with it for hours.

Cod - I have a spare gameboy you can have for el-cheapo if you like - bought it earlier in the year for dd to have in the hols, but she's just not at that stage yet and got a leapster instead for her birthday which I think your ds1 will be more or less grown out of. It works perfectly well and you can pick up cheap games from ebay.

Oh - and ds1 plays his on and off, so not totally addicted, but useful for car journeys etc and he and his chums swap games from time to time.

It's a Gameboy Advance - not the newest type, but not the oldest either. It plays both the old Gameboy colour and Gameboy Advance games. How does £10 incl postage sound and I'll donate it to ds1's holiday fund (he's a bit behind dd as she's just had her birthday!)

No worries - will hang onto it and ds2 will probably want to play with it - thinks at 2.5 he can do everything the others can do! lol He'll be happy if it makes some noise.

Ds1 has a clip-on light for his which was a couple of quid from Ebay - it definitely improves some of the games. Some games better than others for brightness.

Could you borrow one for the holiday and see how he gets on with it - if he gets too stressed and competitive then don't buy him one of his own for a while (although DH still gets stressed and competitive on the ps2 and he's old enough to know better!)
