Coconut Bay Resort St Lucia; help me make up my mind!

If anyone could answer some specific questions I'd be very grateful.

Thinking of booking this for 10 days at the end of March. Need some R and R after a difficult few months but also company for a very active 10 year old DS and activity for a restless DH.

Resort looks lovely but worried that child friendly side set up for toddlers/young children. Is that the case?
Is it easy to do some exploring of the Island?
Has anyone been to an alternative family friendly resort in St Lucia about which they would rave?
Budget is around 5 grand (ouch)

We went to Smugglers Cove when DC were 7 and 9 and had a lovely holiday. It's in the North of the island so the sea is probably a bit calmer than at Coconut Bay. St Lucia is really good for trips. We went on a gondola ride in the rain forest, on a boat trip to see the Pitons, volcano, and Marigot bay. The week before the hotel we stayed in a town house near Reduit beach and the hotels there looked good when we had a wander around. One was called Morgan something or other looked really nice.
