Sicily - August - with childcare?-any suggestions?

Weve been invited to a wedding in Sicily in August. We dont really want to leave ds (will be 2) behind but wouldn't really choose August to travel - so hot and thought that a nice cool aircon'd child facility would really help us all.

Any suggestions welcome. Has anyone been to sicily when its hot hot hot with a toddler? Is it a recipe for disaster? Please help.

Yep, done Sicily when it's hot, hot many times and despite DD being very fair she's been perfectly happy. Where's the wedding? We stay with friends/family near Taormina so I'm most familiar with that area (Catania).

Oh Maria Luisa. Thank you for your message. Ive been so busy all week - I forgot to look at mumsnet to see if anybody had answered.!! I hope you are still out there. WE are going to the north of the island - to a place called Patti. Im having real problems trying to book into a hotel. Ive been sending e mails and they want £150 a night. The price seems to have jumped. Weve booked our flights now. I dont suppose you know patti at all, do you. We are flying in to Catania. Any help welcome!!

Sorry, I don't know Patti at all. A couple of things though; although the sun is strong 30 degrees in sicily tends to ba lot easier than 25 degrees in britain. I think must be sonething to do with humidity (or other weather thing I don't understand!) so pack hats and suncream and don't worry to much about that, (Our rellies think we're mad because we put so much high factor sunscreen on DD and they had hysterics when i dutifully put her in one of those sun protection suits).

Have you thought about renting an apartment? If you're flying into Catania i'm assuming you're hiring a car (remember to get change for the tolls) so you should be able to find an apartment prett easily. It's very unusual not to have air-con in places that are rented out so you should be fine.

How well do you know the people whose wedding you are attending? If you want babysitters tehy will probably have a host of nonnas quite happy to add another bambino to the brood.

WE were in Sicily last October with 2 toddlers and it just flashed back to me where Patti is.
Sorry I'm not much help as our trip was disasterous and if I never go to Italy again it will be too soon. Good luck, anyway.

thanks for your advice maria luisa. We have now sorted out a hotel. oh and thanks for the tip about the tolls on the roads. at least euros makes it easier to have some change before you go.
