A while ago I read a threadwhere quite a few MNers recommended a beach in east Kent/Thanet (I remember that it wasn't too far from me!) Maybe in the Westgte area? I really would like to try it out this weekend if anyone knows where I mean?! TIA

I agree grumpy, Wingham is great - have you been to Wildwood? That's brilliant too, especially if you can get a guided tour. By the Leas Cliff Park do you mean the adventure playground down on the sand? That's one of my favourite places - I used to teach Reception in Folkestone and our best days were spent walking down the zig-zag path to go mad for a few hours!

All sounds good - though we don't have a car so will be restricted to Birchington itself and wherever we can get to by public transport!

Thanks again

Oooh lovely. Just the thread I need! Can someone point me directly, or to a good website, for accomodation in this area? Thinking caravan or B&B, needs to be suitable for 2 toddlers, 1 baby, and 2 adults! I've searched, but cant find anything straightforward to browse.

grumpyfrumpy, you should work in the tourist industry

Resurrecting this thread to say I have just been on holiday in this area and had a fab time. Minnis Bay (where we were based) was great for shells and rock pools. We visited Margate and Whitstable and did an organised "seashore safari" in St Mildred's Bay (Westgate). On the last day we hired bikes and biked part of the Viking trail.

This thread was really helpful to me (if any of you ever need info on Oxford, let me know!)
