Ideas or family friendly long weekends away

Thinking 3-4 nights, not too far away. Would be 2 adults and a 2 year old and 3/4 Monty old travelling.

Are the Xmas markets in Germany abad idea - too crowded?

What about Barcelona?

Germany markets will be really busy. lots of schools and colleges do trips there too. would recommend Barcelona or rome only 2 hours flight and weather wont be too bad and they are child friendly places. or stay in the UK and go somewhere with a kids club so that you get a break.
