Do you have a Marks and Sparks &More card? You can buy currency commission free from M&S and if you use your card it doesn't count as a cash advance (which it would on any other credit card) so you can put it on your account and pay it when the bill comes in.

Post office - also commission free!! I got a good rate there for Euro Amex Travellers Cheques

thanks both. I do have the M&S card and I'm going there tomorrow so i'll check out their rate and then see what the Post Office is doing at the moment. I;e got 3 weeks so i might as well shop around huh and save a few euros.

the best place to get currency is {link\www.thomasexchangeglobal.co.uk\thomas exchange global}

but the most economic way of spending abroad is to get a nationwide debit card - no charges for ATM withdrawals and you get the visa exchange rate for the day which is always higher than any exchange companies rate. for example todays visa rate is 1.46, thomas exchange global's rate is 1.44

then i would advise using a nationwide credit card for any transactions in a shop/restaurant etc - neither the debit or credit card has loading charges, but you have more security if you use a credit card.
