My husband and I are planning to go away with our 8 month old daugther this summer. We fancied going to Plymouth but we don't know much about it or where would be the best place to stay. Anyone got any ideas of family friendly places in Plymouth or Devon as a whole?

We got married at Borringdon Hall which is in Plymtpon. I seem to remember they had family rooms. It is a hotel.

We stayed here when ds was 6 months old for a week, in one of the Duck cottages. Was 7 years ago though and we didn't book via Hoseasons iirc.

Nice setting with both coastlines accessible by car, other families on site and an indoor pool if the weather is cruddy. The cottage had a washer/dryer and microwave and we borrowed a travel cot and highchair.

I lived in Plymouth for 10 years and still go back regularly as dh's family are still there. It is a good base for S Devon and E Cornwall but it depends what sort of holiday you want ie hotel, b &b, self ctering etc plus of course how much money you want to spend.

We stayed here during half term and had a great time. Its just outside Plymouth, but well placed for all the sights. Some of the cottages are nicer than others, so post if you are interested.

JaninLondon - you've just given me the idea of those places too and it looks fab! particularly given that South Wales has a different half term to everyone else and it is cheap that week.

Which property of theirs have you stayed in and what do you recommend to do, tips etc.

Thanks

Oooh sorry - I've been away for 2 weeks so didn't see this question. We stayed in the 2 bed Riverside cottage. It is semi detached and they aren't kidding - the river runs literally outside your bedroom window. Has a nice (shared) enclosed back garden for kids. Most of the places seem to be in a loooong terrace row, which are a lot less private, or directly under the A38 (is that the right road? you know the one I mean) so if we went again we would definitely opt for Riverside again.

Sorry to those who live in Plymouth, but I can think of better places to go on holiday!!

We used to live in east devon which is beautiful, maybe try Exmouth, or a bit further, Torquay.
