weekend away for 50th in February - any advice?

So I'm planning a surprise weekend away for my DH's 50th next year. His birthday is at the beginning of January - we could either go away then, or in mid february when the schools have a half term break.

it will be me, my DH and our two DDS (6 and 8).

Any advice on places that would be good that time of year? I'm thinking European cities probably....

I'd be really grateful for any advice - we NEVER do stuff like this so I@ve got no idea - and I don't want to get it wrong!!

Do you have snow stuff? Bear in mind many places could be quite snowy then and v. Cold.
So decide first if you want north or south Europe.

Barcelona - not been but have been told by friends that there are lots of things to do with kids.

Rome is good too. Book flights independently and then use a hotel booking site.
