Playa del Carmen is really touristical, but in quite a nice laidback way (or was in 2003).

I learnt to dive there, it was fab (not that I've had the chance to dive since ).

No idea why you'd want to be all-inclusive though, there are plenty of nice clean hotels, and the beach and all its snorkelling and scuba-ing delights are right there, or you can just relax with a bucket of Coronas on ice Grin.

How about southern States Beetroot?
Bloody brill value now with nearly $2 to a £1.
Not Florida (well ok,drop in) but Gulf of Mexico,Alabama coastline. It is bloody great.
Ditto North and South Carolina and Georgia (bit hot though now...)

hire an RV and drive down the coast

Beety, there's loads to do at, say Pierre et Vacances, without being an all-inclusive (at least the French ones aren't). There are things like circus clubs, DJ training, etc etc.

mexico is fab best holiday I have ever been on.. stayed at the riu tequila in playacar (just down the road from the wyndam)..went with thompsons. At the time it was cheaper than going to majorca but at a 5* hotel. IT Was amazing ,excellent for the kids food was unbelievable. All inclusive is the best option there is no need to spend a penny if you don't want to.
Fantastic would truly recommend! You will love it!

Two words of warning: Montezuma's Revenge.

I like Mexico. Stay clear of the border towns of you don't want to be flooded with American teenagers crossing the border for under 21 drinking.

Oaxaca and Guadelajara are both nice. Guadelajara is known for mariachis. The pyramids are pretty cool. Can't remember where they are though. You will not find a lot of tourisi in Oaxaca.

Where's Expat? I bet she can give beter advice.

We stayed at the Iberostar on Cozumel, Cozumel was lovely for a day trip but not to stay on for 2 weeks. We transferred to Iberostar on mainland, much better, far nicer hotel and much nearer all the attractions. Would go back there again for deffo!

There were loads of activities/kids clubs but kids perfectly happy with pool and beach. We went on landrover tour of cozumel national park which they loved, swimming with dolphins which they were too young for but GD insisted on.
