Attractions near Harry Potter Studios

I have booked an early morning tour of the Harry Potter studios, but am driving down the day before and staying overnight locally. I was thinking of going to Whipsnade zoo. Are there any other attractions we could go to instead should we decide not to go to the zoo?

I will be driving.

How old are the DC??
The zoo is good

Shopping / pottering in St Albans nice
Road Dahl Museum good bit of a drive
Tring natural history museum good or RAF museum at Hendon?

DD is 13 and absolutely mad on Harry Potter. She likes zoos a lot, but I wondered if there was anywhere else in case we didn't feel like it. I went to Whipsnade when I was 16 and remember how massive the place was.

Thanks for your replies. I think we will do the zoo. After all DD can go to the cinema or swimming any time she wants. Zoos are a bit more special and the trip is a birthday treat.

Hi! We're doing a 2 day visit including HP too. Ours is an evening tour so pretty much have 2 days to fill. We really wanted to visit the natural history museum and some other sights, maybe St James park. What's the cheapest way to travel about? Is their a travel card for 2 days? We're stopping in St Albans but don't want to drive into London.
TIA

Hi, reporting back. We did Whipsnade on the way down. It had rained in the morning, but stopped by the time we got there. Because of the rain the zoo wasn't busy at all and all the better for it. The highlight was the lynx kittens - so cute. We stayed at the Best Western in Watford and did the studio tour the following day.

DD said that it was the best birthday present ever.

I highly recommend the zoo and the studio tour BTW.

We did this recently too - Whipsnade on the way down, then HP tour 10am Monday and over to Bekonscot Model Village Monday afternoon. All lovely.

Stayed at the Premier Inn in King's Langley, which was ideal.
