what about saving yourself the 10 hour queue at checkin/security and go to the poshest hotel in your nearest big city and have room service and a bath on your own!!

I did it once . A group of work colleagues had one night in Barcelona

Early, early flight on the Saturday . At destination by noon.

Flew home mid afternoon Sunday.

Was fun, but too tiring to really enjoy.

I would stay local ish and have relaxing time eating, shopping, kissing...

If you can find something really good then why not. Sounds fab but I think I would be more inclined with a really good hotel here with facilities.

A friend an I once did a full day in Amsterdam with no stay over. Very early morning flight ( pre kids so we were very tired all day long due to our early start Grin) and late flight back.

I wouldn't go somewhere with a long flight or transfer time. Actually tbh dependant on what your priorities are I'd just go for a super fancy hotel in the UK with a spa and stuff to do inside.

sorry - think the plot has been lost OP. yes in the olden days you could roll up but security and other things means you cant do this any more. agree with other posters - find something stunning here either for the night or a fab restaurant. bonkers to try and do it and enjoy it. imo you couldn't do both.

We went on Eurostar to Lille for a night. Weather wasn't great, but the hotel was lovely, and it felt like a proper break.

I also had to go to Barcelona recently. V early flight, so there by 10am. Wondered around all day in the sun Grin and then back to airport for connecting flight to elsewhere. I did think that it would have been easy to turn it into a weekend with family.

I was also thinking Eurostar to Paris/Lille if you're near London.
