Brussels or Lille- the weekend before Christmas

Me and DH are going away for the weekend for my 30th birthday 20/12-22/12, child free.

We've actually booked to go to London but on an easily cancellable booking and I've started thinking it might be fun to go somewhere new and looking at these two we could probably spend the same amount and have the same travel time.

We like eating out and I like shopping, would like to see some art maybe, I'm assuming there would be christmas markets/events in both.

Any opinions or advice?

Brussels definitely have a Christmas market - we have been before and are going again this year; markets are brilliant!

Brussels is beautiful around Christmas, the Grande Place is all lit up and the last time we went there was a Christmas market and some fairly funky fluorescent cows (Or maybe I had been overdoing the Deleruim Nocturnum??!!) a few gorgeous fruit beers in a local bar and then a wander round the Xmas market with a hot waffle with ice cream, yum!
