We're planning on spending a few days in the Dumfries & Galloway area - does anyone have any recommendations for days out / atttractions in this area that would be suitable to take a toddler along to?

cycling in the many forestry commission areas (google for more info) if you have a seat on the back of your bike there are plenty of straightforward routes; a visit to the Cream of Galloway ice cream place with adventure playground and lots of other stuff to see and do; Rockcliffe is very pretty too

There is a chocolate factory which has a great adventure playground, you can pay for just that as the main factory tour and chocolate making is more for older children.
I'll second cream o Galloway, you could spend the whole day there, lovely walks, great indoor and outdoor play areas for toddlers.

Cream o'Galloway thirded here.
We had a great time at Castle Kennedy gardens in Stranraer at Easter, gardens were lovely and they do wildlife walks/treasure hunts etc for the children. Dalscone Farm in Dumfries is fab also, loads to do.

If you have any Grand Prix fans, twynholm (sp) is where David Coulthard is from and they have a wee museum to him. It's such a pretty wee village and the bankburn hotel there does amazing roasts.

We went to Cream o' Galloway one half term and it was so crowded that it was unpleasant. OH hated the place and couldn't get away from the place fast enough. The ice cream was ice cream - no better than the ice cream we can get locally.

We visited Galloway Wildlife Conservation Park, the museum of lead mining in Wanlockhead, Castle Douglas, Kippford and the beach at Sandyhills.

Thanks for the suggestions Smile

I think we'll be missing school holidays, so Cream o' Galloway hopefully won't be too crowded for us!
