Try the Somerset Tourist Board site - they have links to various lets - failing that The National Trust.
What are your needs? sea/country/walks/eat out or in ...?
Axbridge is a lovely little village near to Cheddar and nestling in the foothills of the Mendips. You also have the reservoir near and not too far from the sea ( or should I say mud?) for a bit of bucket and spade action !!

Axbridge-Cheddar is a good idea, I also rather like the levels if you can fin somewhere there- burrowbridge / stathe / high ham.

yes, try the somerset tourism website.

can recommend St Catherines Lodge in a v.sml village just outside Frome - stayed there for a couple of summers. sleeps up to 6, well prepared for toddlers and on edge of longleat estate, so quick access into safari park. can CAT their email if you want it, will try and google a link aswell. the presenters from that morning animal programme - Ben Fogle and Kate ?? stay there when they are filming.

said all this but just remembered you need to stay clear of the Showground at Shepton Mallet and surrounding area for last 2 weeks of July and beginning of august - there will be no self-catering (or very difficult to find) as theres a big festival on as a yearly thing. then again you may be thinking of going.....
