Disneyland Paris Hotel recommendation please.

We are thinking of going for 3 days just after xmas and from initial investigation seems cheaper to book park/hotel seperately from flights.
Anyone have any experience of this?
Also am confused by the number of hotels.
I think I would like to actually be within the park for the full experience and convenience but would like to keep the cost reasonable.

We had a lovely weekend at Davey crocket's ranch last October. Stayed in mobile home type lodges. You get the full Disney experience and it worked out to be quite reasonable.

We stayed at the Dream Castle hotel, booked through laterooms.com and then booked the Eurostar directly. It was cheaper to book Eurostar/TGV changing at Lille than to get the direct train.

Although the Dream Castle isn't walking distance there is a free shuttle bus that takes about 10mins and it wasn't much more hassle.

Of the on site hotels I can say I love the Sequioa , less keen on the Newport bay (stayed both of them twice) and apparently the cheyenne is also walking distance and meant to be a nice hotel but I never tried it personally. The really are the three onsite mid price range hotels.

Most of the shuttle bus hotels are meant to be nicer (have only done My explorers which was lovely, really nice food) but personally I can't abide the shuttle buses (I had a buggy and now have a special needs buggy so that kinda colours my view).

If your looking at the lower end of the price scale would definately shuttle bus rather than santa fe. Would love to be able to advice on the new york of disney hotel [sigh] when I win the lottery maybe

can't help on flights as have only done eurostar!!!
