New York with a baby - any tips please?

We are taking ds for a long weekend in New York in May, by which time he will be 13 months. I'm assuming we'll have to lug our car seat with us so we can travel in cabs? If we take the car seat, will ds need his own seat on the plane? (We were hoping he could sit on our laps to save money)
Any tips about getting around, baby friendly things to do etc would be much appreciated! Thanks.

You don't need a car seat to travel in a cab but you might prefer it
We didn't bother as only did short trips in the cab
You can always use the subway or buses instead

You can check the car seat in with your luggage so you don't have to buy a seat

I think there must be a guide book with details of where to find baby changing - this seemed to be rare compared with London

I hadn't even thought about baby changing - good point! If anyone can recommend a good baby friendly guide book that would be great...

We to Ny with DS 4 in January. Children seem to be a rarity in NY, they must be there somewhere but we saw very few. Your DS will be able to sit on your lap on the plane. They give you a special seatbealt attachment that goes around your belt and then around the baby for take off and landing. You could always'borrow' this for cab rides in NY ( I have done that before)
Make sure your pushchair is easily foldable, and light so you can get on to the subway easily.
I think at that age you can take a baby pretty much anywhere you want to go.
